Port of Antwerp-Bruges is one of the busiest ports in Europe. To assist large vessels, tug boats are operated to ensure smooth mooring and unmooring. However, different organizations are operating these tugs and the Port Authority does not have full visibility on their operations. The challenge was to provide the Port Authority with visibility on all operations, not just the ones they are conducting.
Analyzing tug boat operations at Port of Antwerp-Bruges
The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is one of Europe's busiest ports, with a significant number of vessel operations taking place daily. To ensure the safe and efficient mooring and unmooring of large ships, tug boats are employed, with various organizations responsible for overseeing their operations. Our team provided valuable assistance to the port by providing the tools to conduct an in-depth analysis of these operations, utilizing convoy tracking and advanced analytical techniques.
The challenge
The solution
Our team of experts assisted the data science team of Port of Antwerp-Bruges by providing advanced analytical algorithms to track, and identify tug operations. Working on radar and AIS data, we provided efficient convoy analysis algorithms that identify in detail where and when tugs are assisting vessels during the mooring and unmooring processes. The biggest challenge is that this is a complex spatio-temporal problem where the algorithm needs to run on large amounts of data.
From the first meeting with xyzt.ai, we were very impressed with their visual analytics platform. It’s a fantastic toolbox that generates insights from large volumes of location data with incredible speed and efficiency. They also have a great team of experts with the right mindset and work ethic. Working with xyzt.ai helped Port of Antwerp-Bruges accelerate the transition towards a smart and safe port.
